Dear Leader,

There are some exciting changes coming from our National BSA office as we move into our second century of Scouting in America. Over the next few years, you will see Scouting grow like never before (both in size and in stature because of increased awareness) throughout our Council and our nation—truly, our best days are ahead of us!

As leaders, we must always strive to provide better programs for the Scouts entrusted to us. That is especially true for those talented adults who train others to lead. And that’s our purpose in writing you today. Trained leaders are more effective at communicating core program ideals by using a variety of methods. Scouts and adults learn using different styles, so we must teach that way. An upcoming training session will prepare us to do exactly that. It’s called the Trainer Development Conference, and will be held on January 10th, 2009, at Milliken University (part of Milliken Research in Spartanburg).

Who should attend:
* All Council and District Trainers (and anyone interested in becoming a Trainer)

* Woodbadge Staff (and Woodbadge graduates, who would like to be on Staff)

* Friends of Scouting Presenters

* Anyone who makes public presentations

* Cubmasters, Scoutmasters, Venturing and Exploring Advisors

* Pack Trainers

* Troop Training Chairs (any Troop that has not appointed one...please do!)

This one-day conference will set you apart as an elite Scouter in our Council, able to utilize all forms of media to get our message across. So whether you are new at training, or an “old timer” who seeks to hone your skills even more, this session is for you. We will provide a special “Certified Council Trainer” patch for those who complete the course, so you can be easily identified as a qualified trainer.

Thank you for all you do as a leader. Please join us in becoming even more effective in your leadership role, however you seek to serve youth and other adults in the future.

Scout Executive Council Training Chairman
