National Youth Leadership Training

National Youth Leadership Training

National Youth Leadership Training (NYLT) is the premier council offered leadership training program for 13–20-year-old youth members of Scouts BSA Troops and Venture Crews. It is a 6-day training course divided over two weekends that is primarily conducted in an outdoor setting for Scouts BSA and Venturers who want to improve their leadership skills. Participants must attend both weekends to complete the course.

NYLT is an intense and challenging leadership course taught by youth leaders. Participants are assigned to a Patrol for the course and will have the opportunity to serve in leadership roles such as Patrol Leader and Assistant Patrol Leader. Participants will improve their leadership skills as they have fun learning and playing together. The course is set up to represent a one-month activity cycle in the life of a Scouts BSA Troop concluding with the outpost experience Saturday night.

NYLT benefits include:

  • Develop leadership skills participants can immediately use in their unit

  • Arm youth leaders with the knowledge and experience to promote "youth led" units

  • Connect Scouts across the Council with shared experience
