Taylor Thomas is a native of Chester, SC. After graduating from Union County High School, he attended Wofford College where he earned the B.A. in Business Economics. Thomas began working with the Palmetto Council in April of 2013 as a York District Executive. Prior to joining our staff, Thomas was a very active Scouter. As a youth participant, he earned his Eagle Scout with Troop 45. He was also a very active brother in the Skyuka Lodge 270, Order of the Arrow (OA). Thomas held various leadership positions in the OA including two terms as Lodge Chief and one term as the Southern Region Section 5 Training Coordinator. Thomas was recognized by Skyuka Lodge as a Vigil Honor member, Founder’s Award recipient, Indian on the Mountain Award recipient, and Centurion Award recipient.
During his time at Wofford College, he formed the Camp Bob Hardin Promotions Committee. This new Committee within the structure of the Camping Committee was designed to promote the council’s summer camp program to Scouts across the Southern Region. During the committee’s first year, summer camp attendance increased 75%. Thomas was also a very active brother of Alpha Phi Omega (APO), a National Service Fraternity founded by Boy Scouts. As the APO Chapter President at Wofford, he supported the local scouting program by hosting the Wofford Campout, Belt Loop College, Chemistry merit badge, Pinewood Derby, and conducted service projects at Camp Bob Hardin. In 2013, Thomas was recognized by the Pi Iota Chapter of Wofford College with the APO Chapter Distinguished Service Key and Section 77 Distinguished Service Key. At his Wofford graduation, Thomas was awarded the Algernon Sullivan Award for his service to community.
While serving as the York District Executive, Thomas was an active member of the Fort Mill Rotary Club. In 2015, he was given a Paul Harris Fellowship and honored as Rotarian of the Year by the club. Thomas was selected to be a part of the BSA Southern Region Emerging Leaders program in 2015. In September 2015, Thomas was promoted to serve as Senior District Executive of the Daniel Morgan District. In 2016, Thomas was promoted to serve as Field Director. When Thomas is not Scouting, he enjoys fishing, turkey hunting, kayaking and serving the community. Thomas also serves as a deacon at Wilksburg Baptist Church and as a Alpha Phi Omega Advisor.
