The Palmetto Council of the Boy Scouts of America is proud to announce the addition of Dan O’Neal to their staff as the Senior Director of Philanthropy. Mr. O’Neal is no stranger to Spartanburg and brings over 25 years of fundraising experience to the Boy Scouts of America.

A Clemson University graduate in Natural Resource Management, Dan began his Scouting "career" as an Eagle Scout, Order of the Arrow member and attended both the National and World Jamborees while a Scout. He worked for the United States Fish and Wildlife Service for 14 years, both as a Wildlife Manager and Federal Agent. Dan then worked for 25 years as the Senior Director of Fundraising Initiatives for Ducks Unlimited, a 750,000 member organization. After retiring from Ducks Unlimited, Dan worked at Converse College as the Senior Development Officer.

Dan has been very active in the Spartanburg community over the past two decades. In 2007 he received the Order of the Silver Crescent, our State’s highest honor for volunteer and community service.  He has served as the Chairman of the Public Safety Department; Chairman of the Board for the Greater Spartanburg YMCA; Bi-Lo Charities Review Committee; and is a Paul Harris Fellow with the Downtown Spartanburg Rotary Club, where he serves as Social Chairman as well as Chairman of the Rotary Foundation. Dan is a true outdoorsman and has travelled extensively in his pursuit to climb the seven highest summits on the seven continents.

Mr. O’Neal is married to Lynn O’Neal, his wife of 37 years.  They attend Westminster Presbyterian Church, where he is an ordained Elder. Please welcome Dan to the Boy Scouts of America, as he will further our mission to prepare young people to become responsible, participating citizens and leaders.
