2013 Scouting for Food Results

The Palmetto Council of the Boy Scouts of America held its annual “Scouting for Food” Drive Saturday November 9, 2013.  The “Scouting for Food” Drive is the Boy Scouts of America’s largest community service project.  Scouts from Spartanburg, Cherokee, Union, York, Chester, & Lancaster counties participated in the Drive.  As a collective group, the Palmetto Council collected 58,092 pounds of food.

Palmetto Council names Greg Leitch new Scout Executive

On Friday September 6, 2013 the Palmetto Council, Boy Scouts of America Scout Executive selection committee named Greg Leitch as their new Scout Executive / CEO. Mr. Leitch will begin his duties at the Palmetto Council on October 7, 2013. He has successfully completed an assignment as the Assistant Scout Executive / Chief Operating Officer of the East Texas Area Council in Tyler, Texas.

Bob Justice awarded National Outstanding Eagle Scout Award

Robert Eugene Justice became a Boy Scout in Nillis, West Virginia, at age 12. Bob earned his Eagle Scout badge and has continued to “help other people at all times” (part of the Scout Oath) throughout his lifetime. Now at age 86, Bob has 74 years of continuous Scouting service. During WWII, he served as Scoutmaster on several military bases. He went on to become a Scouting Professional, leading Councils as a Scout Executive, and serving on the National Boy Scout Training Staff. He has been active with Scouting through the Baptist Churches for many years, and currently serves on the Palmetto Council Executive Board. It is here, as a dedicated volunteer that Bob continues to give back to the community, what Scouting gave to him so many years ago. Bob’s leadership extends far beyond Scouting.
