Verhonda will work as part of the Multi-Cultural Markets team part time to help rapidly grow our Career Emphasis Exploring program. Verhonda is pursuing her MBA at Gardner-Webb and is a member of the Chesnee City Council. She has served for the last three years as the Marketing Coordinator for the National Beta Club. She is a 2014 graduate of Leadership Spartanburg.
We are excited to have her expertise in building programs for high school students!

The Palmetto Council Board of Directors is proud to announce that Mr. Taylor Thomas has been selected for promotion to Field Director. His role will include management of all field service operations as well as the effective organization, operation, and promotion of the council program within the districts through our unit service executive team. He will begin his new assignment on September 1, 2016. Taylor will continue leadership of the Daniel Morgan District while a search is conducted for his successor.
Taylor is a graduate of Wofford College in Spartanburg. He has completed the Professional Development Training Program hosted by the Center for Professional Development, BSA. His achievements include Journey to Excellence achievement during each year of his service in both the York and Daniel Morgan districts. He was recently selected as a member of the Southern Region BSA Emerging Leaders program, which is reserved for the top 10% of all unit service executives. His is active in the Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity and is a Vigil Honor member of the Order of the Arrow.

In 2018, Eagle Scouts Cycling Across America (ESCAA) will form a "Floating Jamboree" and cycle 4,200 miles serving as ambassadors of the Scouting program. This cycling adventure will start in Seattle, WA and finish in Fredericksburg, VA covering 15 states in 65 days. ESCAA is looking for at least one Eagle from every council to join the adventure! Our Assistant Scout Executive, Jonathan Platt, has resigned his BSA commission to pursue other interests and spend more time with his family. We are thankful to Jonathan for his tenure in the BSA and with the Palmetto Council. He intends to continue as a volunteer with his son’s troop.
We have hired a part-time paraprofessional to serve the Catawba District. Mrs. Sonja Schmal will begin her duties on August 8th. She is a doctoral candidate who is looking for a part-time career that allows her to complete her studies. She is well connected to the Catawba District where she serves in a variety of volunteer roles. We look forward to her enthusiasm as we grow Scouting throughout Chester and Lancaster counties
The Council Service Center will be closed for the week of July 4th. The Palmetto Scout Shop will be closed July 2nd-4th and will reopen on July 5th at 9:00 am. Please take this opportunity to celebrate all of the things that make our country great. We wish our entire Scouting family a safe and enjoyable Independence Day!
Our Senior Director of Philanthropy, Mr. Dan O’Neal, has tendered his letter of retirement from professional service effective June 30th, 2016. He has accepted a calling to begin overseas mission work. He will be working closely with a foundation dedicated to ending child slavery and human trafficking in foreign countries. He will begin his new role with them on July 1, 2016.
Dan has served as an important part of the Palmetto Council family for the past three years after an extensive career with Ducks Unlimited. A reception is being planned in mid-July to recognize Dan for his contributions to the youth and families that we serve.

We have had a great response from Boy Scouts and their families regarding the June 12th Greenville Drive game at Fluor Field! The deadline to order tickets has been extended to Friday, June 10th, so be sure you and your troop act fast to be part of the fun.

Unit leaders collecting money from each attending family can place a single order by CLICKING HERE or calling the Boy Scouts at 864-585-4391.
Individually:
Order tickets individually online by CLICKING HERE. Be sure to provide your Unit type and number in the designated area (Drive will put unit tickets together)
All reserved seats for Boy Scouts and Boy Scout Families are only $7 and include the Boy Scout Commemorative Patch. Tickets can be picked up at the Field Street entrance before the game on June 12th.
