Keeghan Brown, a Boy Scout from Troop 413 in Boiling Spring, SC, was honored during the 2016 Distinguished Citizen Dinner as the Palmetto Council's Inaugural Scout of the Year. Keeghan was born with a congenital heart defect. He has battled through multiple heart surgeries over his short lifetime. This past fall Keeghan went through a tough time which included 4 strokes, a heart valve replacement and kidney failure. During that time while he was in Greenville at the Children's Hospital and then moved to the Medical University of South Carolina, the Scouting community wrapped their arms around the Brown family with support. Scouts sent hundreds of cards to the hospital, so many that they ran out of wall space. During the Wofford Campout, Scouts along with the Wofford College cheerleaders made a get well video. While the Brown Family was with Keeghan at the hospital, Scouters provided child care when needed for Keeghan's siblings and two meals per day for two months for the family. Keeghan is now back home and doing well. He was recently elected as a Patrol Leader in Troop 413. While our Scouting community has supported Keeghan, he has been an inspiration to us all. Despite his health conditions, Keeghan has been active and growing in Scouting. Thank you, Keeghan, for reminding us all to Keep Pounding!
