The Whtiney M. Young Jr. Service Award recognizes outstanding service by an adult individual or by an organization for demonstrated involvement in the development and implementation of Scouting opportunities for youth from rural or low-income urban backgrounds.
Larry Fann
Larry Fann founded Pack 19 to serve Scouting in the Lone Oak Community through his home church of Bethany Baptist Church. In addition to helping with Pack and Troop 211 on a weekly basis, he and other members of his Sunday School class run den meetings for Pack 19 which is a primarily Hispanic unit. He is also played a role in founding a Pack and Troop for the South Carolina School for the Death and Blind. Because of his devoted work with our multi-cultural market units, the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award is presented to Mr. Larry Fann.
Cathleen Simpkins
Cathleen Simpkins is known as the epitome of a “Scout Mom”. She has held almost every role in Pack 250 and also serves as an Assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 250. She has a passion for teaching and supporting our youth. When Pack 1860 with the Boys and Girls Club at Fort Mill was formed, she jumped in to serve as Cubmaster. She has put a lot of time and energy into creating a program that will work for afterschool Scouting programs. Because of her tireless work with our multi-cultural market units, the Whitney M. Young Jr. Service Award is presented to Mrs. Cathleen Simpkins.
